Assessment-Based Treatment for Traumatized Children: A Trauma Assessment Pathway (TAP)

In 2005, the Chadwick Center for Children and Families created the intervention model, Assessment-Based Treatment for Traumatized Children: A Trauma Assessment Pathway (TAP) with support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). TAP incorporates a multifaceted assessment process to enable clinicians to gain an in-depth understanding of the child, their developmental level, their traumatic experience, and the family, community and cultural system in which the child lives.  This information is used to effectively triage and treat the child and family and to assist the clinician in making decisions throughout the treatment process.
