on Child and Family Maltreatment
January 28 - February 1, 2008
Welcome
I am pleased you have joined us in San Diego for
the 22nd Annual International Child and Family Maltreatment
Conference sponsored by the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady
Children’s Hospital.
An outstanding program has been planned bringing
together some of the most respected specialists from around the world to share
and learn from one another. Representing 50
states and 6 continents, over 1,800 professionals will focus on learning and
spreading the best practices available for children and families whose future
depends upon us all.
In this conference, we have balanced strong
science with practical experience and real world solutions built on solid
evidence. Our international faculty of 240 will share their insights during the
12 pre-conference institutes, 200 workshops, 4 plenary sessions and 8 luncheon
sessions.
In addition to our traditional attention on
medicine, law, investigation, mental health treatment, child welfare,
interviewing, prevention, Child Advocacy Centers, leadership, and research, we
will feature special tracks on issues affecting
LGBTQ youth
Offender intervention
Native American families
Cross-cultural subjects
In addition, a series of new topics is offered on
medical education, ethics and a week-long course on Child Fatality
Investigation.
We are delighted to be joined in these efforts by
a wide range of national and international collaborators with extensive support
from the Department of Justice, OJJDP, the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, the California Department of Social Services- Office of Child Abuse
Prevention, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and Substance Abuse, and
