N3 SHAME AS BARRIER TO SUCCESSFUL INTERVENTION IN HIGH RISK FAMILIES

 

Wendy Wade, MA began her work in this field at Kids are Special in San Jose.  She facilitated groups for children of addicted parents and provided trainings.  She later became an elementary school teacher both in private and public school systems, and was principal as well all in the Santa Cruz area.  Her next position was as Coordinator of the Children's Program at the Betty Ford Center, working with children ages 7-12 whose have parents who are alcoholic or addicted to other drugs.  During that time she began work on her doctorate in clinical psychology, training at the Family Service Center and County of Santa Cruz primarily with children and families. She has continued her association with the Betty Ford Center Children's Program and to provide trainings and classes on the effects of parental addiction on children to teachers, counselors and familes.
