D2 REDUCING TRAUMATIC SYMPTOMS IN YOUNG CHILDREN THROUGH PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY

 

Dr. Anthony Urquiza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, University of California Davis Medical Center and Director of Mental Health Services and Clinical Research at the CAARE Center. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Washington. The CAARE Center provides medical evaluations, psychological assessments, and a range of mental health treatment services primarily for

abused and neglected children.

 

During the last decade, Dr. Urquiza has been adapting Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to families involved in child welfare systems and disseminating PCIT to mental health programs throughout the United States (www.pcittraining.tv). His empirical research has supported the benefits of PCIT with both abusive families and foster families. In addition, he has been instrumental in developing PCIT as an intervention for Spanish-speaking and Hmong families.
