N15 FELLOWSHIP TRAINING IN CHILD ABUSE PEDIATRICS

 

Suzanne Starling is a fellowship-trained pediatrician specializing in child abuse pediatrics.  Before moving to the Tidewater area of Virginia, Dr. Starling was the Director of the Child Abuse and Neglect Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.  She is a Professor of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Medical Director of the Child Abuse Program at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk.  Her current clinical work, education and outreach efforts, and research all focus on child maltreatment. She lectures extensively to medical, investigative, and legal audiences, serves as an expert witness in child abuse cases, and has published many journal articles and book chapters in the field of child abuse. 

She is the director of a child abuse fellowship and is involved in the training of fellows, residents and medical students.  Dr. Starling served for 6 years as an Executive Committee member of the Section on Child Abuse of the American Academy of Pediatrics and presently chairs the section.  She is a charter member of the Helfer Society, an honorary society for physicians specializing in child abuse.
