Matthew Stagner, PhD

K3 DADS IN THE MIX: FEDERAL APPROACHES TO FACILITATING FATHERS' ENGAGEMENT WITH THEIR FAMILIES
Dr. Matthew Stagner is Director of the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, a research center focused on child and family policy. Prior to joining Chapin Hall, he directed the Center on Labor, Human Services, and Population of the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C. He is an expert on youth transitions to adulthood, youth risk behaviors and youth development, and child welfare services.
He recently served as the Scientific Coordinator of the November 2005 Conference on Evaluation of Abstinence Education sponsored by the Office of Population Affairs and the Family and Youth Services Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Dr. Stagner joined the Urban Institute in October, 2000, after serving as Director of the Division of Children and Youth Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, DHHS. Between 1997 and 2000 he served as the Federal Project Officer on the Evaluation of Abstinence Education Programs Funded Under Title V Section 510. Prior to working at DHHS, Dr. Stagner directed research for the National Research Council and the Center for the Study of Social Policy, and Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago.
He holds a Ph.D. from the Irving B. Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
