E3 SUPPORTING NEW PARENTS: WHAT THEY ASK FOR, WHAT WE OFFER AND WHAT THEY GET

Julie Spielberger is a Research Fellow with expertise in child development, early childhood education, emergent literacy, school readiness, and the role of play in children's learning. Currently, she is principal investigator for an 8-year study of service use and its relationship to family functioning, child development, school readiness, and school success.  Other research focuses on two initiatives to improve staff development and the quality of early childhood and after-school programs. Past work includes an evaluation of a school-based behavioral health initiative, research on children's literacy development in after-school programs, and a national evaluation of a youth development initiative in public libraries. Prior to joining Chapin Hall, Dr. Spielberger worked extensively in the training of Head Start teachers, as a researcher and consultant with Head Start family literacy programs, and as an instructor in child development and early childhood education. She received her Ph.D. in Child Development from the Erikson Institute, Loyola University Chicago, and an M.S.T. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Chicago.
