G14 b) PHYSICAL ABUSE OF SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
Sue Skinner, MD, has been a child abuse pediatrician for 12 years. She works in Portland, Oregon, at CARES Northwest, the largest and oldest child abuse assessment center in the state. During her time at CARES Northwest, Dr. Skinner has seen over 1400 children in the outpatient clinic for concerns of child abuse and neglect. In addition, she provides medical consults on patients hospitalized for issues related to abuse.
When not seeing patients, Sue plays an active role in the training of other professionals in the state. CARES Northwest is a designated training center for 21 counties in the state of Oregon. Dr. Skinner was one of the editors of the Oregon Medical Guidelines for Evaluation of Sexual Abuse in Children and Adolescents, 2nd edition 2004, and is also a part of the statewide Oregon Medical Training group of physicians. Dr. Skinner has particular interests in physical abuse of school-aged children, emotional abuse and neglect, the medical diagnosis of abuse, and assessment of adolescents.
