Kathleen A. Sellick joined Rady Children’s Hospital- San Diego on June 30, 2006.  Prior to her appointment at Rady Children’s, Kathleen served as Executive Director of the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) since April 1, 2001.  Sellick joined UWMC in January 1999 as Associate Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.

 

Her accomplishments at UWMC include leading the senior leadership team in the establishment of a comprehensive planning system for the medical center, reorganization of key functional areas and the successful transition of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance bone marrow and stem cell adult patient units to UW Medical Center. Under her leadership the medical center attained its highest operating margin in its history in 2003, and a ninth ranking in the U.S. News & World Report honor roll of America’s Best Hospitals.

 

Before coming to Seattle, Sellick served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California for four years. Earlier, she was Vice President of Administration and Director of Outreach Development for Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California where she served for eight years. Sellick also worked at American Medical International in Beverly Hills, California, Westgate Medical Center in Denton, Texas, and was an administrative resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

 

Sellick is active in a number of volunteer organizations, boards and industry groups. She served as board chair of Airlift Northwest for five years, and founding chair of the Washington State Health Work Force Institute.  She currently serves on the board of directors of the American Hospital Association, Healthcare Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties and chairs the AHA’s Regional Policy Board.  Prior to leaving Seattle, she served on the board of the Washington State Hospital Association, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Life Center Northwest.

 

A Phoenix native, Sellick is a graduate of Arizona State University and received her MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Sellick and her husband, Phil, are parents of a 9-year-old daughter, Grace.

 

Rady Children’s has become one of the leading pediatric hospitals in America and was the country’s first children’s hospital to receive the prestigious Ernest A. Codman Award in recognition for its pioneering work in quality of care.   Rady Children’s is the major pediatric partner of the Sharp and Scripps health care systems and, in 2001, signed a historic agreement combining the University of California-San Diego pediatric programs with Rady Children’s.
