Shannon Self-Brown completed her graduate work in Child Clinical Psychology at the Louisiana State University and her clinical psychology internship at the University of Miami Medical Center, Child Protection team.  She received her Ph.D. in 2004, with a specialization in clinical and research work in child trauma and pediatric psychology.  From 2004-2006, Dr. Self-Brown completed an NIMH-sponsored postdoctoral fellowship at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina.  During this fellowship, she received further clinical and research specialization in the area of child trauma and maltreatment.  Dr. Self-Brown is currently a Research Fellow within the Division of Violence Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Dr. Self-Brown has published several works examining risk and protective family factors for youth exposed to community violence, child maltreatment, and family violence. Her current research interests include the impact of trauma and violence on child and adolescent psychological and school functioning as well as the prevention of child trauma and victimization.
