H2 FAMILY-CENTERED TREATMENT FOR TRAUMA: EVIDENCE-BASED APPLICATIONS FOR DISASTER, MEDICAL AND MILITARY SETTINGS

 

Dr. William Saltzman, is a nationally-recognized expert on the treatment of childhood and family trauma and bereavement.  He is a Professor of Counseling at California State University, Long Beach, a member of the clinical faculty in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and a staff member at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress at UCLA. Since 1996, Dr. Saltzman has directed domestic and international  trauma/grief programs for children and families. These programs include a national post-war recovery program for war-exposed youth in Bosnia Herzegovina, and multi-site school-based programs in high-risk communities in Southern California. His manualized programs for children and adolescents have been broadly implemented in New York City subsequent to the World Trade Center terrorist attack and across the State of Florida and in New Orleans following their devastating hurricanes. Dr. Saltzman has also worked with individual schools and districts following traumatic violence including Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado, and Santana High School in San Diego California. He is currently conducting multiple pilot implementations of a family-based trauma intervention for children and families impacted by parental wartime deployment, medical trauma, and disaster.
