A7 DISSEMINATION OF EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICES I11 WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? --- LESSONS LEARNED FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FATALITY REVIEW TEAM
Barbara Ryan is a graduate of the School of Social Work, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has been involved in the social work field for 33 years and has worked specifically in the area of child abuse for 21 years. Ms. Ryan is the Director of Clinical Services at the Chadwick Center for Children and Families within Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego. The Trauma Counseling Program provides advocacy and trauma focused therapy services to child maltreatment victims and their families, including children who have been exposed to violence in their home, school or community. Recently the program has expanded its services to children who have experienced medical trauma.
Ms. Ryan has been instrumental in bringing numerous grants to the Chadwick Center that have enabled families to receive a range of counseling and advocacy services. Most recently, grants have been received from the Office of Child Abuse and Neglect and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. The Trauma Counseling Program has been a leader in the field of assessment-based treatment in California. Its protocol for assessment–based treatment has been a model for other programs. The Center is involved in collaborative efforts to identify and disseminate best therapy practices for child maltreatment victims.
Ms. Ryan is a member of the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board’s Peer Review Committee and Standards of Care Task Force. She is also a Program Representative on the California State Sexual Assault Advisory Committee within the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. She is a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network Steering Committee.
