G13 TRAUMA, CHILDREN AND SCHOOLS: WORKING WITHIN AN AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURAL FRAMEWORK
Aaron Morsette is a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy. He serves as a Trauma Intervention Specialist in the Division of Education and Research Services at the University of Montana, and conducts trauma research in Native American populations. Mr. Morsette is assisting with implementing the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) for children who exhibit symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression. Mr. Morsette has presented at state, national and international conferences on the topic of trauma in Native populations. He has authored several articles on PTSD and Native Youth. Mr. Morsette attended the University of Montana (UM) where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a minor in Native American Studies. Currently, he is attending UM where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Mr. Morsette has worked with various tribal entities on reservations in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho and Washington.
