Michael R. McCart earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2006. He completed a pre-doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology at the Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Program. Dr. McCart is currently a post-doctoral research fellow in the area of traumatic stress at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. McCart will be transitioning into an Assistant Professor Faculty position at the Family Services Research Center at MUSC in August 2007.
Dr. McCart’s primary clinical and research interests include the assessment, early intervention, and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and externalizing behavior problems among adolescent victims of interpersonal violence. He is also involved in translational research exploring how basic science studies on fear and extinction can help guide the improvement of existing interventions for PTSD and other anxiety disorders. Dr. McCart has received awards from the U.S. Department of Justice and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children for his work with adolescent victims of crime. He has several publications in the area of youth violence and he has presented the findings from his research at a number of professional meetings.
