N2 c) THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VIOLENCE EXPOSURE AND POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS SYMPTOMS AMONG CHILDREN REFERRED TO CHILD WELFARE

Dr. Hurlburt is a research scientist at the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center at Rady Children’s Hospital, conducting research on mental health services for young children and children involved with child welfare.  He has interests in how to support quality improvement in community-based mental health care settings based on empirically supported intervention models.  His current research examines the use of treatment strategies and techniques emerging from evidence-based programs in community settings, using extensive videotape based coding of treatment sessions with children and their families to understand the implications of current practice patterns for effective approaches to quality improvement.  His research also examines how different approaches to supporting implementation affects the fidelity of program delivery, and client outcomes, of an evidence-based parenting program.  Dr. Hurlburt teaches developmental psychology, served as chair for the Rady Children’s Hospital Institutional Review Board, and currently reviews for a number of journals in the areas of child maltreatment and mental health services research.
