Melinda Hohman, PhD, MSW

N1 USE OF MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING WITH CLIENTS IN THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM
Melinda Hohman is a Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, San Diego, where she has worked since 1995. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, research, and social work practice. She also coordinates the undergraduate social work program. She previously was employed as an administrator and therapist in adolescent residential and hospital-based substance abuse services and as a Juvenile Probation Officer. Dr. Hohman’s research interests include substance abuse assessment and treatment services and the overlap of substance abuse treatment and Child Welfare services. She has been a trainer in Motivational Interviewing since 1999, training community social workers, Child Welfare workers, probation officers, domestic violence counselors and addiction counselors across Southern California. Dr. Hohman has been the PI or Co-PI on numerous grants, including a study of substance-using women who were concurrently involved with the Child Welfare system. Currently Dr. Hohman is the Co-PI/evaluator on two Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services expansion grants for women receiving drug treatment in a residential setting.
