Dr. Carla Kmett Danielson is an Instructor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Danielson received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University in 2003. Following internship, she completed a 2-year, NIMH-supported Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the NCVC. Dr. Danielson’s research focuses on reducing risk for negative sequelae in youth victims of traumatic events by identifying mechanisms underlying the development of PTSD, substance abuse, and other high risk behaviors and evaluating interventions that target these problems. Her research in these areas is supported by a NIDA-funded K-23 Career Development Award and a NARSAD Young Investigator Award. In addition, Dr. Danielson is involved in research investigating the role of cultural factors in the assessment and treatment of Hispanic victims of traumatic events, including the cultural adaptation of a trauma-focused treatment for Hispanic families. She has published and presented nationally in the areas of youth victimization, mood and substance abuse disorders, and cultural issues.
