Rachel K Buehrer is a survivor of childhood physical and sexual abuse. She is employed by the Cullen Center in Toledo, Ohio which is a National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) site where she coordinates intake and research evaluation matters. When in her advocacy role, she uses her own experiences as a consumer of mental health services to promote the involvement of youth and families at all levels of service delivery at the Cullen Center, on a state transformation task force, and as co-chair of NCTSN’s Partnering with Youth and Families Collaborative Workgroup. She assists the Cullen Center’s Project Director in training a wide array of audiences on trauma-informed care. Rachel co-facilitates a psycho-educational group on trauma at an alternative public school for teen mothers.
In addition, Rachel, along with members of the Survivor’s Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) has been actively involved in lobbying for changes to Ohio state laws that restrict the reporting and prosecution of sexual crimes against minors. Rachel has been previously employed by Lucas County’s Help Me Grow system, a home visitation and child development education program for young mothers.
