Dr. Berger is an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine and an attending in the division of child advocacy at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is also associated director for child abuse research at the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research at the University of Pittsburgh. For the past 7 years, her research has focused on how to improve our ability to detect inflicted traumatic brain injury with a focus on the use of biomarkers and how biomarkers might be able to used to improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of both inflicted and non-inflicted brain injury in young children after both inflicted. Her other research interests include the improving the evidence-base for the evaluation of siblings of physically abused children and the use of clinical decision rules in child abuse medicine. She is currently funded by a K23 award from the NIH and an R01 grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
