Joie Acosta, PhD
Managing Associate Association for the Study and Development of Community
Dr. Joie Acosta has extensive professional experience, skills, and abilities with regard to violence prevention and substance abuse initiatives for children, youth and families including over nine years of research, evaluation, and practice experience. As a Managing Associate with the Association for the Study and Development of Community, Dr. Acosta provides evaluation expertise to national and local organizations, community partnerships and coalitions, state and federal agencies and academic institutions.
Currently Dr. Acosta manages the Safe Start Demonstration Project, an initiative funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to promote effective change in social service systems for children and families exposed to violence; provides technical assistance and expertise to the Safe Start Promising Approaches Project; and serves on the leadership team for the national evaluation of the Drug Free Communities Program, a youth substance abuse prevention program. She has used evaluation results to adapt family substance abuse prevention programs to be more culturally competent and has extensive understanding of the influence of culture and diversity on communities.
