Abstract:

The overall objective of fellowship training is to produce a physician who is clinically proficient in the field of Child Abuse Pediatrics.  Proficiency includes the ability to diagnose and manage acute and chronic manifestations of child abuse, competence in teaching, the ability to design and conduct research in child abuse, and competence in the physician role in a multidisciplinary field. The child abuse fellow is expected to become familiar with administrative, legislative, and policy issues in child abuse.  This workshop will discuss the expected ACGME requirements for fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics, as well as the projected timeline for initial accreditation of fellowships.  There will be discussion of competency-based educational activities.  Sample curricula from diverse programs will be presented.  Fellow and program evaluation techniques also will be discussed.
