Description:

This workshop reviews assessment, risk management and intervention approaches for persons with major mental illnesses and histories of sexual offending or other problematic sexual behaivor.

Abstract:

Strategies have evolved for working with persons with histories of sexual offending and for persons recovering from major mental illness.  These strategies have important points of tension, including perspectives on containment, hierarchies of intervention, methods of assessment, and degree of appropriate risk-taking in support of recovery.  This workshop reviews a "best practices" approach for assessment, risk management and intervention for persons with both major mental illness and histories of sexual offending or other sexually problematic behavior.  Clinical, practice, policy and administrative challenges in addressing this population are addressed as components of an overall approach.
