Learn the organization of the DSM, descriptions of the most common diagnoses encountered in forensic contexts and what to expect of people carrying with these disorders.

 

Abstract:

This workshop will explain the development and multiaxial organization of the DSM-IV-TR (i.e., Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition, Text Revision). The major categories of diagnoses attorneys are most likely to encounter will be addressed, including Psychotic Disorders, Mood Disorders, Substance Related Disorders, Sexual Disorders and Personality Disorders. Participants should gain a clearer understanding of these disorders and what to expect of patients or defendants afflicted with them.
