This workshop reviews structures of law and ethics guiding the provision of mental health services to children and families, especially conflicts and dilemmas that may arise when serving those who are or may become court-involved due to family violence or maltreatment.

Abstract:

This workshop reviews structures of law and ethics guiding the provision of mental health services to children and families, especially those who are or may become court-involved due to family violence or maltreatment.  The interplay between HIPAA and state laws is described as are the elements of informed consent, mandated reporting, confidentiality and privilege, duty to warn/protect, competency of professional services, and training/supervision issues.
