Abstract:

Compassion fatigue, known also as as vicarious traumatization or job stress, poses a constant threat to professionals and advocates who work to support victims of violence and abuse. This 90 minute workshop provides attendees expressive writing tools to prevent or overcome compassion fatigue and job-sustained stress.

WellWriting is a form of directed, expressive, and autobiographical writing that can:

• Improve well being

• Be healing for some

• Help improve chronic disease and pain.

In addition, job performance can be enhanced by using various writing forms to:

• Mindstorm (a form of personal brainstorming)

• Reveal overlooked assets

• Make connections with current problems and past personal trauma or stress.

Above all, this workshop is fun. And what can be more healing and helpful than a good dose of humor?
