The state of sexual offender treatment has advanced dramatically in recent years. This session describes best practices and the qualities of effective treatment providers. It provides helpful information to all professionals involved in reducing the harm of sexual abuse, whether working directly with sexual offenders or not. An explicit focus on recent research is maintained; a history of the field is provided so that attendees gain a clearer understanding of where the field has been and where it is at present. The workshop also addresses recent concerns raised in the media, and provides ideas on how professionals can respond to the myths and facts regarding sexual offenders they encounter.
