Abstract:

Professionals who help abused and neglected children are curious about the history of child protection. Has the child protection system always existed? If not, how and when did the system emerge? Has America made progress over time in the effort to protect children? What does the history of child protection tell us about the future? This talk, which is illustrated with historical photographs, addresses these questions, and adds depth to our understanding of child protection.
