Description:

This session will look at vascular response following brain trauma, and its contribution to neural loss and brain injury.

Abstract:

Past discussion of vascular injury in abusive head trauma has focused on the major vessels supplying and draining the brain.  The vasculature of the brain itself is vulnerable to both structural and functional injury.  Complex regulatory mechanisms are easily disturbed with great potential to influence the occurrence, timing, and recurrence of brain injury.  This session will discuss early work in understanding vascular changes following trauma, and relate them to controversies in abusive head trauma.
