Description:

Interview Strategies for Multidisciplinary Teams involving Children with Disabilities

Abstract:

This workshop will review the content contained in the New York State CD-ROM on Child Abuse and Children with Disabilities with a focus on the section entitled "Interview Strategies".  It will include sections on Pre-Interview Concerns and Conducting an Interview across various groups of children with disabilities.  The sections outline basic knowledge that should be known by all members of the multidisciplinary team related to child characteristics, interview strategies or "reasonable accommodations" that may be needed.    Included in the presentation are initial strategies for working with children within the autism spectrum disorder, blind/visually impaired, deaf/hearing impaired along with intellectual disabilities.
