Abstract:

Maltreated youth are often diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder or Conduct Disorder, particularly if they display acting out, delinquent, or aggressive behavior. Unfortunately, many of these youth are misdiagnosed or have another mental health condition in addition to CD/ODD. Labeling maltreated youth solely as having “behavior problems” when there is something else going on can prevent them from receiving treatment they truly need. This workshop focuses on common mental health conditions seem among youth who have been physically or sexually abused that are often mistaken for CD/ODD. High-energy, practical format, with video clips, case examples, and audience participation.
