Description:

This workshop will be devoted to the description of cutaneous injuries in normal children and to the resolution of bruising.

Abstract:

The first part of this workshop will focus on the description of cutaneous injuries in normal children.  Published studies will be reviewed, including the speaker’s own research involving 2,040 examinations of 1,467 youngsters from 0 to 17 years of age.  It is important to recognize the characteristics of these injuries (number according to age, site and type) in order to distinguish them from lesions caused by physical abuse.

The second part of the workshop will present current knowledge on the evolution of bruises, from their appearance to their resolution.  There will be a review of the literature to help answer the following question:  Is it possible to date bruises?
