Description:

This intermediate workshop will utilize submitted cases as well as videos of actual treatment sessions to demonstrate how evidence-based practice techniques (such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) can be used to extinquish sexual behavior problems (SBP's).  Also included in this workshop will be a brief overview regarding the assessment of sexual behavior problems (SBP's).

Abstract:

Despite the influx of recent research and literature regarding sexual behavior problems (SBP’s) in children, treatment providers continue to be challenged by SBP’s manifested in children. When are SBP’s a problem and how do we change the behavior?

Treatment providers still often struggle with understanding the causative factors of SBP’s in young children which is critical in determining a diagnosis and the formulation of a treatment plan.

Presenters at this workshop will explore and discuss how treatment providers can determine if the SBP is normal or concerning in children ages three to twelve years and review the value of a thorough assessment as well as the use of standardized measures.

The focus of this workshop, however, will be on brief, structured treatment methods and techniques (based upon evidence-based practice and existing research) that can be effective in the extinguishment of SBP’s.

This will include components of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that can be effective in decreasing SBP’s. Pre-submitted case examples and video clips of treatment sessions will be used to illustrate and discuss various treatment strategies and techniques to use with clients and caregivers.  This session will include lecture, case examples, video clips, and discussion.
